NA SENIOR HOUSING: RHETORIC OR REALITY?
LOCAL GOP MAKING PROMISES AGAIN THEY CANNOT KEEP?
Political Donor Serves as Paid Consultant to the all-Republican Mayor & Council!
NORTH ARLINGTON – For decades the notion or promise of senior housing has been suggested, inferred, promised and discussed for decades with no tangible site or location.
But now a consultant hired by the GOP Majority who also happens to be a fellow Republican and active contributor to NA Republicans is suggesting that the Calo-Sass VFW Hall located on River Road could be a workable site along with construction of a new senior center and health department.
RCM Ceberio, where the principal is an active Republican who lost for Passaic County freeholder (now commissioner), and served multiple terms as a school trustee is an active political donor to Republicans like Brian Fitzhenry and Allison Sheedy who both voted “yes” to approve his contract with the Borough.
According to the firm’s web address, RCM Ceberio has been tasked in bringing senior housing to North Arlington, which would be 45 units and wholly owned by the municipality.
The proposal calls for a senior center, health department and new VFW facility.
While borough residents are outraged and opposed to the density we see with over 100 new apartments currently constructed on Ridge Road with more to come on the Belleville Turnpike and Schuyler Avenue, Republicans are touting this as part of the “redevelopment renaissance” the rest of the community visualizes as increased density, urbanization, increased traffic and decreased residential street parking due to the plethora of apartment dwellings that few residents want nor support!
The picture you see here is the flash flooding that takes place and occurred on Monday, August 19th which is at the bottom of River Road and Arlington Boulevard, just steps from the proposed senior facility and municipal offices.
What will be done to mitigate such future flooding scenarios, especially if a major project such as this is considered at this particular site?
What studies have been done to ensure this would be the most appropriate site and why is there never a Town Hall or communication with residents and homeowners for their advice and opinion?
For if this flooding issue is not addressed, how does one seriously move forward, and just where are the embedded incumbents, Brian Fitzhenry and Allison Sheedy?
Are they even aware of the proposal?
What will be done to correct the current flooding even if this site is deemed inappropriate?
Just another reason why North Arlington is desperate for responsible two-party government to end this monopoly and monologue now.
For what Fitzhenry and Sheedy believe is a “redevelopment renaissance,” the reality is rampant overdevelopment that is transforming North Arlington into an extension of Harrison in Hudson County or Belleville in Essex County.
Let North Arlington thrive as the gateway to Bergen County. Let’s maintain our community values and keep us small, safe and suburban!
Fitzhenry and Sheedy, out-of-touch, in too long and it’s time for them to go!
