TO BUILD OR NOT TO BUILD, WHERE ARE THE PLANS?
PRONTI PROCLAIMS NEW POLICE STATION AND FIREHOUSE TO BE CONSTRUCTED, BUT RECORDS REQUEST BY DEMOCRATIC COUNCIL CANDIDATE PROVIDES NO DETAILS OF SUCH A PROPOSAL!
CLERK CLAIMS IN RECORDS REQUEST, “NO RECORDS, INVALID REQUEST.”
NORTH ARLINGTON – Municipal Clerk Katie Moore, who just received a pay raise courtesy of taxpayers to her $114,000 annual salary shot off a response this week for a records request about the potential construction of a new police station and firehouse at Borough Hall.
Apparently, the Borough is planning to demolish the Health Department facility as well as the Eugene Madden Senior Center to make way for a new police station and firehouse but finding or receiving verifiable information has been difficult to say the least.
Sources say the Health Department and Madden Senior facility will be part of the proposed senior, veterans housing project planned at the VFW location on River Road.
Mayor Dan Pronti at the last council meeting proclaimed this construction of a police station and new firehouse is long overdue, claiming it should have been done 25 years ago.
Pronti has served as either a councilman or mayor for over a decade. He is a retired Montclair police officer. He also receives roughly $14,000 annually in his part-time capacity as mayor and is also a licensed real estate agent.
Pronti retired in June of 2010 after 16 years of service.
The request for records turned up zero information despite the fact Pronti made the announcement at the last council meeting in which Moore was also in attendance.
Here is the response from Moore to Democratic council candidate John Balwierczak’s public information request.
Charactering the request by Balwierczak as “broad and unclear,” just how do citizens receive information on a construction proposal that could easily cost North Arlington in the tens of millions of dollars?
To date no cost figures have been made public.
When will the details and fine print be available for public inspection, reaction and feedback?
If Pronti is so confident this is going to occur, where are the plans and details and how does one gain access to this documentation?
Residents are urged to call (201) 991-6060 and see what information will be made available to the public at this time.
