ANOTHER EMPTY STOREFRONT HITS NA!
271 Ridge Road now dormant, adds to a string of vacancies along the avenue in North Arlington!
NORTH ARLINGTON – A fundamental change has taken place on Ridge Road as retailers are seemingly disappearing, as more and more apartments and multiple-family dwellings are now the norm versus the exception!
Sources say hundreds of units have been constructed along Ridge Road with more scheduled, and this trend is now metastasizing to River Road, Schuyler Avenue and the Belleville Turnpike too.
Apparently residents are happy with the change as they easily reelected the two incumbents largely responsible for this urbanization of what was once regarded as a very sought after, suburban locale.
For this proverbial “tale of two cities,” one and two-family homes nestled with three major garden apartment complexes that for decades conformed to the mass, scale and character of the community is being replaced with vertical structures that demand parking and other essential services that see property taxes rising, and not stabilizing under this controversial redevelopment of North Arlington.
271 Ridge Road is now vacant as pictured here.
With two of the largest parcels vacant with the old MELRAYS property and Boston Market, one wonders what is the plan for Ridge Road to revive itself from this loss a retailers and increase of apartments that are sprouting like daisies on a warm spring day?
Longtime locals are lamenting online that NA is rapidly changing, and going in a direction few seem to agree, but elections have consequences and you do get who you vote for!
