BLAH, BLAH BLAH!

 BLAH, BLAH BLAH!

Overdevelopment is not Redevelopment, as Fitz and Sheedy are quickly finding out!

No answers or solutions. Just political “word salad” heavy on the dressing!

NORTH ARLINGTON – Trying to explain away rampant overdevelopment of Ridge Road is not the responsible redevelopment most residents want and seek.

But the rantings of this Republican Mayor that hundreds of apartments along Ridge Road with more to come is not a plan or a purpose, but the urbanization of Ridge Road that sheds little support from voters.

As the Republican spin machine is about to pivot, divert and duck the only substantial issue in this race for Borough Council, Democrats John Balwierczak and John Yampaglia continue their search for support in a race that is now gone from “Solidly Republican,” to a “toss-up” contest in the minds of most local observers.

“The Democrats are clearly outworking the incumbents. They have been to my place at least twice. I see them at the Post Office, they are working and I agree with their slogan that NA remain small, safe and suburban,” noted one Ridge Road passerby when asked to assess the election.

“This has been a Republican town, but I’m happy we finally have a choice and these challengers are making a race out of it.”

Democrats laughed when the GOP claims they are willing to speak on the issues.

“Where? At a stacked deck council meeting of all Republicans? When will Fitzhenry or Sheedy be allowed to utter a word? Do they believe everyone is just stupid? There are hundreds of apartments constructed and more to come, especially if they win. What is the fate of the Italian Villa and the other parcels? How long do we have to look at that dilapidated slum of a political clubhouse? The Republicans ask that residents do their homework, but when will they do theirs? School is out and the proof is in the current conditions that exist on Ridge. Vacancies and buildings apparently being prepared for demolition,” offered the two Democrats.

“This mountain to Mohammad mentality that you need to attend a council meeting to know what they are up too is delusional. Walk down Ridge Road and keep your eyes wide open. Incumbents Fitzhenry and Sheedy have their eyes wide shut,” offered the challengers.

“If Fitzhenry or Sheedy took the time to knock on a single door, they would understand the angst and opposition to this urbanization of North Arlington. This transformation through overdevelopment has residents angered and upset. There was never a wider difference of opinion between the political parties since the days of EnCap. The choice is clear, small, safe and suburban or becoming Belleville? The answer is evident and obvious.”

Balwierczak and Yampaglia believe their negative campaign is backfiring.

“We know some of our signs have been stolen and we have a good idea who took them,” offered Balwierczak, a former Republican seeking office for the first time.

For the old criticisms of Democrats border on the ridiculous.

“I was 13 years old when a failed water utility mismanaged by the Republicans was sold. Millions saved and millions received for a failing asset. Even Bergen County Commissioner Steve Tanelli, then a councilman opposed the silly notions of Brian Fitzhenry who was defeated by nearly a thousand votes and Tanelli supported the sale,” offered Balwierczak, a Chestnut Street resident.

“With Fitzhenry and Sheedy at the helm we have witnessed pay hike after pay hike for the last four years to this double-dipping, dual job holder (Sheedy). They refuse to acknowledge the mess on Ridge Road with hundreds more for the Belleville Pike and Schuyler Avenue, They are petrified by the prospect of Democrats on the Mayor & Council because if they win, the truth about the real explosion of new apartments has really just begun.”

And now property taxes are increasing as Fitzhenry and Sheedy squirrel away surplus funding that could have avoided this year’s tax hike they supported.

“They all vote yes on everything. Hundreds if not thousands of yes votes. They maximize taxes through the rolling assessments they adore. They are penalizing and punishing homeowners with these practices and the chickens will come home to roost on November 5th,” offered Balwierczak, long a target of political intimidation since leaving the Republicans to run as a Democrat.

The Republicans are asking residents to search online obscure documents they barely understand themselves, offered the Democrats.

“We have been criticized for requesting public documents through responsible record requests. They believe that is a burden to these incumbents. Yet they want you to review items they will not explain. They want you to go to council meetings where anyone who disagrees with them is treated in a rude and condescending manner. Like we have said in the past, they believe this is their town and we just live here.”

Balwierczak and Yampaglia have asked voters to summarize the current state of affairs in North Arlington:

Rampant and unbridled overdevelopment of Ridge Road with hundreds of apartments and more to come.

A complete retreat from keeping North Arlington small, safe and suburban.

Increased density along Ridge Road.

More overdevelopment to come on the Belleville Pike and Schuyler Avenue.

Increased traffic along Ridge Road.

More residents means larger class sizes in our public schools.

The urbanization of North Arlington versus remaining the suburban gateway of Bergen County.

This obsession with multiple dwellings, just like Belleville!

Rolling assessments is a code for higher property taxes.
