DEMOCRATIC STATEMENT ON THE ISSUE OF EMINENT DOMAIN SEIZURE BETWEEN QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY AND THE NORTH ARLINGTON BOARD OF EDUCATION:
“The application of eminent domain seizure by a governmental agency should only be considered as an action of last resort and in this case, I would oppose such an extreme measure, and my running-mate Jim Sever is in full agreement.
The Queen of Peace Catholic Community and the Archdiocese of Newark have been and continue to be important religious faith partners here in North Arlington.
Their historic presence as advocates for this community is unparalleled.
The process of eminent domain seizure is adversarial in nature and should be avoided as both the school board and QP have worked together in the past on other transactions such as the purchase of Queen of Peace High School.
I received my first Holy Communion as well as Confirmation at Queen of Peace while at the same time I am a product of our local public schools as a graduate of North Arlington High School.
I would hope both sides will get back to the bargaining table and that the notion of eminent domain seizure be eliminated from this conversation.”
