LYNDHURST – After another day of door to door canvassing, the North Arlington Democratic council hopefuls John Balwierczak and John Yampaglia secured the endorsements of former Lyndhurst Mayor Lou Stellato, Passaic County Chair John Currie and NJ Senator Nellie Pou (D-35), the Democratic nominee for the United States House of Representatives to succeed the late William “Bill” Pascrell (D-9).
Stellato, one of the most popular political figures in South Bergen history has never lost an election, serving terms on the Lyndhurst Board of Education as well as Township Commissioner.
He served as both board president and mayor of Lyndhurst.
Stellato led a revitalization of the Bergen County Democrats in his tenure as chairman, not losing a single contest and gaining a permanent majority on the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders, now known as county commissioners.
Currently a member of the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority, Commissioner Louis J. Stellato is President of Stellato Funeral Homes and manager of the Lyndhurst location. He is a 1970 graduate of the University of Minnesota with a B.S.M.S. in Medical Science and a Major in Mortuary Science. Commissioner Stellato received his PhD in Funeral Service Education from the National Academy of Funeral Service.
Senator Pou, who was unanimously selected to succeed Pascrell, could become the first woman to serve in Congress from the 9th CD.
Pou has endorsed both Balwierczak and Yampaglia.
The locals will be back in the streets on Wednesday and at 7pm will be hosting a “meet and greet” at the Arlington Diner located on River Road and the Belleville Turnpike.
“We are gratified by the support received from our partners at the county and federal levels. Mayor Stellato is the template for success in government and politics, having never lost a race as a candidate at the local level which is quite an achievement,” noted Balwierczak, the Chestnut Street resident.
Democrats will be at the North Arlington Post Office one final Saturday beginning at 9 am until 12 noon, located at Ridge Park Drive. Stop by and feel free to speak with the candidates or pick-up a lawn sign for your home or property.
