HEY COUNCILWOMAN SHEEDY, ISN’T THAT JUST A LITTLE TOO GREEDY?
“Double-dipping” Allison Sheedy was paid $500 by NA Republicans to work Election Day, but the GOP candidates ran unopposed!
NORTH ARLINGTON – In a campaign where local Republicans ran unopposed last November, Councilwoman Allison Sheedy (R) who already is receiving two government checks for her role as an elected official and school secretary for the North Arlington Board of Education, picked up an additional $500 for campaigning on Election Day for colleagues Mario Karcic and Donna Bocchino according to filings with the state’s Election Law Enforcement Commission or more commonly known as ELEC! It is seemingly unusual for elected members of any governing body to be paid to support their own colleagues in a campaign where there was no race at all. Both Karcic and Bocchino ran unopposed. Sheedy is on two government payrolls in her role as a part-time council member and employee of the North Arlington Board of Education. She receives roughly $1,000 a month to attend a council meeting and previously voted to give herself and her other council colleagues a raise as well. A “double dipper” in politics is someone who draws two incomes from the government, usually by combining a salary and a pension. For most elected officials supporting their colleagues are rarely paid to work election day, especially when the results were never in doubt! A screen shot of the payment is from the report filed with the state by the NA Republicans. At the local level, most campaigns are fueled by volunteers or paid a nominal fee. NA Republicans raised some $33,000 last year and spent almost 20,000 despite having no contest. One only wonders what lengths they will go to outspend Democrats in 2024? Just another reason why we need responsible, two-party government that will end this machine-style political monopoly! Sheedy is expected to seek another three-year term of office in 2024 with the other incumbent, Brian Fitzhenry.Democrats are expected to run John Balwierczak and John Yampaglia, both graduates of NAHS and longtime community members.
