ICONIC “PIZZA LAND” BEHIND BALWIERCZAK & SEVER FOR NA BOROUGH COUNCIL!
NORTH ARLINGTON – Pizza Land, one of the most recognizable retail establishments in the United States due to its connection to the award-winning HBO series, The Soprano’s is doing what it can to promote the council candidacy of John Balwierczak and his running-mate, Cengiz “Jim” Sever.
Located at 260 Belleville Turnpike just around the corner from Ridge Road, candidate John Balwierczak thanked “Natti” who posed for a quick photograph Friday evening.
“Pizza Land is an historic landmark that everyone loves. One of the great things about campaigning is talking to local businesspeople and getting their take on the state of North Arlington. I appreciate his personal support of our efforts,” noted the life-long resident and graduate of North Arlington High School.
Here’s why Pizza Land in North Arlington is so famous:
It appears in the opening credits of the TV show The Sopranos, making it a sort of pop-culture landmark. The Wikipedia page for the town of North Arlington explicitly mentions Pizza Land as a local business based there that became known nationally because of that appearance.
According to its own website, the restaurant describes itself as “a North Arlington historical landmark and legend” with old-style thin-pan specialty pizzas, stuffed rolls, etc.
What to expect if you go to Pizza Land:
The pizza style: “old-style, thin-pan specialty Pizza’s [sic]” is how they describe their pies. It’s more than just a pizza shop: the menu includes hot & cold sandwiches, stuffed rolls, antipasto salads, etc.
Why people visit:
For the landmark status: If you’re a fan of The Sopranos (or just appreciate Americana & pop culture landmarks), the connection makes it interesting. It offers a long-standing local pizza institution with a legacy and a recognized name in the neighborhood. Since the signage and exterior are recognizable from the show, many patrons may go for the “tourist angle” as well as the pizza.
