BALWIERCZAK: “I WAS 13 WHEN THAT WATER UTILITY WAS SOLD. A SALE THAT WAS OPPOSED BY COMMISSIONER STEVE TANELLI.”

NORTH ARLINGTON – Local Republicans are circling the wagons as it becomes more and more apparent they can’t defend this miserable record of building hundreds of apartments along Ridge Road with hundreds more to come.

NA Today has learned that incumbents Brian Fitzhenry and Allison Sheedy will attack local Democrats on a twenty-year old water utility sale that saved taxpayers millions while receiving additional millions for a deteriorating system valued at just $257,000 at the time of the transaction by a Republican appointed municipal auditor!

Obsessed with the past, the Republicans continue to ignore their own record of urbanizing North Arlington into an extension of Essex County and Belleville.

And no one wants to become Belleville.

In fact the incumbent Fitzhenry who was defeated by landslide proportions in 2004 on this very issue seems intent on bringing back the very issue that saw him lose by nearly one thousand votes.

People not on the ballot, individuals no longer involved in municipal affairs could be a potential target of a ticket that has yet to offer a solitary single accomplishment over the last nine years in office

“When all is said and done, they have no record. At least one they would like to talk about,” offered former Republican John Balwierczak, a first-time candidate for Borough Council.

In an online message to Balwierczak, “Pronti and his goons are canvassing my street and asking my neighbors for their votes and signs.”

“Pronti belittled you to my neighbors saying you are a 35-year old living in his moms basement.”

Undeterred and unbowed, Balwierczak predicted “the worst is yet to come, and this is just the beginning of this impending gutter campaign to destroy my commitment to public service,” said the candidate.

“It is this style of MAGA attacks and criticisms that will backfire. Someone needs to remind the Mayor his name is not on the ballot. I’m running against Brian Fitzhenry and Allison Sheedy.”

Nevertheless, local Democrats are even more determined to break this Republican stranglehold on local government that comprises of seven Republicans and zero Democrats. No Democrat has served since 2019 and no Democrat has been elected since 2016, some eight years ago.

“It’s time to own their failures. Hundreds of apartment dwellings and the elimination of height restrictions is the record of Brian Fitzhenry and Allison. Have the honesty to own this record that is on your watch. And by the way, what is to come of MELRAYS and Boston Market? As always, no answer and no response. This is a government of secrets,” said the candidates.

But despite the distractions and negative campaigning, Balwierczak and Yampaglia have received broad support throughout the community with small financial donations and sign locations backing the Democrats.

“They are the candidates of the special interests. Real estate interests, builders and alike who have no interest in the mass, scale or character of the community. The notion of keeping North Arlington small, safe and suburban is something these incumbents and their out-of-town backers despise. They are committed to gentrification, increasing density and traffic while urbanizing North Arlington into another Harrison or Belleville, pick your poison,” offered the hopefuls, both graduates of North Arlington High School.

“The campaign is simple. Continue to construct hundreds of new apartments that are stressing essential services as well as small class sizes, or stay true to our principles of keeping North Arlington small, safe and suburban.”

“We believe the people are on our side.
