NA DEMOCRATS TO MEET FEBRUARY 14TH AT THE ARLINGTON DINER
Gathering signatures for council candidates Balwierczak & Yampaglia, filing candidates for the county committee tops meeting agenda as March 25th deadline nears.
NORTH ARLINGTON – The Democratic Municipal Committee and organization of North Arlington will be meeting on Wednesday, February 14th at 7:00 PM at the Arlington Diner located at the corner of River Road and the Belleville Turnpike. Democratic Committee Chair Nick Antonicello will preside and light refreshments will be served.
“This is an exciting time for North Arlington Democrats. We have two hard-working and home-grown candidates that are local products willing to put in the work and time necessary to represent our community. I have served as party leader for several decades and these candidates are committed to winning this campaign. John Balwierczak and John Yampaglia are two individuals who want to keep North Arlington small, safe and suburban. They oppose these efforts to urbanize and gentrify North Arlington and they embrace the notion that North Arlington is the gateway to Bergen County,” noted Antonicello.“They have spent months campaigning door-to-door and gathering grass roots support. They are committed to conducting themselves in a fashion that is constructive, as they seek new ways to make North Arlington prosper,” offered Antonicello.
Both Balwierczak and Yampaglia have consolidated the support of local Democrats such as former council members Mark Yampaglia, Pat Roche, Al Granell, Tom Zammatore, Robert Myers and former two-term Mayor Peter Massa. In addition, US Congressman William “Bill” Pascrell (D-9), New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy, New Jersey Senator Paul Sarlo (D-36), and Assembly members Gary Schaer and Clinton Calabrese (D-36) are supporting this challenge to the all-Republican Mayor & Council. Senator Sarlo carried North Arlington last November and Tammy Murphy is the frontrunner for the US Senate and has the backing of the Bergen County Democratic Committee. Paul Juliano, the county chair has also endorsed the new local Democratic team. Residents who support this effort are urged to attend as the local candidates will be seeking volunteers, donors and lawn sign locations for the fall contest.
The candidates have been humbled by the display of support they are receiving in their door-to-door campaign.“We have no illusions as to the task before us. This will take a huge effort that is disciplined and organized with a unifying message. We intend to do exactly that. The people deserve a choice in their democracy. We need a discussion of the issues and not a coronation or monologue by embedded incumbents who seem to think elections are just some necessary evil. We will offer a real choice and work hard to earn the confidence and respect of North Arlington voters,” offered both Balwierczak and Yampaglia. “Nobody wants a local government controlled by developers, builders and real estate interests. Council members can’t be hand puppets. We need balance. We need a government that places North Arlington first.”
