Believe quality-of-life issues not being addressed with Republicans controlling all levers of local government!

NORTH ARLINGTON – With roughly 100 days before the November 5th general election, scores of locals seem unhappy with the overall direction of the community.

This year, two Democrats are challenging embedded GOP incumbents Brian Fitzhenry and Allison Sheedy. Neither have received a serious challenge in nearly a decade.

Republicans currently control all seven seats on the Mayor & Council and no Democrat has served since 2019.

This year both Fitzhenry and Sheedy voted to raise Municipal Taxes while continuing this trend of overdevelopment while continuing to support the unbridled construction of multiple dwelling apartments along Ridge Road.

Many people believe this urbanization of North Arlington has resulted in decreased parking, more density and an overall stress on essential municipal services.

Democrats are running John Balwierczak and John Yampaglia, both life-long residents and graduates of North Arlington High School.

The following comments are from FACEBOOK, where NA residents have several dedicated pages that talk about issues important to them.

One resident complained of yelling at 4AM in the morning in the proximity of Truman Road.

One resident made the comment that local Republican officeholders “are losing the town.”

Apparently in what is described as an illegal rooming house exists in North Arlington and that local officials are in fact aware of the issues regarding the location.

Several residents were so disgusted in the community’s apparent backslide that they were contemplating moving out.

One poster summed up her feelings in this way, “Could not agree more, this town is going downhill fast.”

One resident proclaimed, “I lived in town my entire life and can’t wait to get out once we retire.”

“…these quality of life issues become a slippery slope and once that backslide starts, it’s hard to recover.”

Another poster described the continued trend as “the bad changes.”

One resident noted they have lived here for 26 years and described North Arlington as a “paradise,” but now “too much stuff going on. And nothing gets done.”

Council candidate John Balwierczak described these comments as “chilling and disturbing,” and believes electing Democrats would make sense for North Arlington.

“We need a second pair of eyes. We need responsible two-party government. We need a change from this failed status quo that believes overdevelopment of Ridge Road is somehow a good idea.”
