NEW JERSEY YOUNG DEMOCRATS ENDORSE BALWIERCZAK FOR NO. ARLINGTON BOROUGH COUNCIL!

Former Viking Varsity Basketball player, NAHS graduate seeks to break Republican stranglehold of local government.

Ending Random Rolling Tax Reassessments, #1 priority for Democrats!

NORTH ARLINGTON – Democratic council candidate John Balwierczak was endorsed by the New Jersey Young Democrats, the official youth arm of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee.

Balwierczak, is running with union member, homeowner, husband and father Cengiz “Jim” Sever.

Together they are seeking to end the all-Republican stranglehold of local government as the GOP currently occupy all six seats including the office of mayor.

No Democrat has served on the Borough Council since 2019, some 6 years ago.

“We need a reasonable discussion on the future of North Arlington. That is not the case with six Republicans all voting exactly the same way, all of the time. Council meetings are just a series of “yes” votes with no debate or discourse,” offered candidate Balwierczak.

“Democrats, independents and undeclared voters have no voice in North Arlington despite the fact we are the majority. 75% of the community is being shutout and ignored.”

OUTRAGEOUS OUT-OF-COURT SETTLEMENTS. WASTEFUL SPENDING IS THE NEW NORMAL!

“The incumbents voted to approve a secret out-of-court settlement for $200,000 with a former library employee and refuse to disclose the details of this outrageous payout! Republicans have approved nearly $500,000 in legal fees since January of 2024. They have voted to refund hundreds of thousands back to homeowners who are successfully appealing these unfair reassessments. Why won’t they reveal the details of this $200,000 payout to a former employee? Transparency has been thrown out the window,” commented Balwierczak.

“I have spent the last three months canvassing door to door and the overriding issue with voters are these random and rolling tax reassessments that are enthusiastically endorsed and supported by the incumbents. Kirk Del Russo and Amanda DeCicco believe in raising property taxes for no apparent reason. They fail to understand the process is inherently unfair and inequitable to residents, especially seniors living on fixed incomes,” offered the candidate.

The Democrat is calling for a more reasonable and traditional assessment process that is uniform and equitable for the entire community.

“Less then 12% of NJ municipalities apply reassessments in this fashion. North Arlington is out of step with the rest of New Jersey and Bergen County. The current system remains unfair and unpopular with homeowners, and the entire process is adversarial, confrontational and expensive. Why should one segment of the community be targeted by paid assessment inspectors looking to maximize values? Homeowners are being punished for nominal improvements. These random reassessments are a deterrent to maintaining one’s property. We believe assessments should be 100% in process and at the maximum, once every 5-7 years,” observed Balwierczak.

Balwierczak believes reassessments are just making North Arlington more expensive while squeezing out middle class homeowners and seniors.

“This is the reason why they won’t debate or engage us as candidates. They are sleepwalking through this campaign by avoiding the only issue that matters and that’s these random Republican reassessments. We are on the side of homeowners and tenants. They represent a failed status quo.”
