US CONGRESSMAN JOSH GOTTHEIMER: A SUBURBAN, “COMMON-SENSE” DEMOCRAT THAT HAS A PLAN TO CURB RISING PROPERTY TAXES HERE IN NEW JERSEY.
VOTE IN TUESDAY’S DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY.
Democrats seeking a gubernatorial nominee for New Jersey might find Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-5) a truly compelling choice due to his blend of bipartisan experience, fiscal conservatism, and commitment to “common sense” values!
NA Today urges all voters to consider his candidacy in this Tuesday’s Primary, assuring suburban communities like North Arlington have a real voice in Trenton.
In the most crowded field in decades, both the mayors of Jersey City and Newark have entered the race (Steve Fulop and Ras Baraka), the first time that has occurred since 1981 when both incumbents Tommie Smith and Ken Gibson would be defeated by then Congressman Jim Florio of Camden. Florio would lose the closest election for governor in state history to Tom Kean by some 1,600 votes. Florio would run again and defeat Rep. Jim Courter in 1989 to succeed Kean.
Only New Jersey and Virginia are holding gubernatorial contests in this off-election cycle.
With both political parties not fielding an incumbent, Democrats would be wise to nominate a candidate from the state’s largest county (Bergen) that has a record of bipartisan success and can gather cooperation between the political parties in addressing the state’s #1 challenge and that’s rising property taxes in every municipality.
Secondly, Gottheimer has a strong record with the public safety sector, first responders like police officers and fire fighters where he is considered tough on crime as well as an advocate for quality public education, two constituencies that make for a wining coalition come the fall contest.
Gottheimer’s congressional district is made-up of many suburban municipalities that closely resemble North Arlington in size and scope.
As a Bergen County advocate, North Arlington will have an ally in Trenton who understands our concerns and issues.
Here are several reasons why Josh Gottheimer makes sense for North Arlington, Bergen County and all of New Jersey:
1. Proven Bipartisan Leadership:
Gottheimer has co-chaired the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus in Congress, demonstrating his ability to bridge divides and enact legislation across party lines. This track record positions him as a unifying figure capable of fostering cooperation in a politically diverse state.
2. Focus on Affordability and Property Tax Relief:
Addressing New Jersey’s high living costs, Gottheimer has pledged to reduce property and income taxes.
He aims to overhaul the state’s tax code to make it more affordable for residents and businesses, emphasizing the need to lower utility bills and housing costs. He is the only candidate in the race for governor with a viable and logical approach to reducing the property tax burden on homeowners.
3. Strong Fundraising Capabilities:
With a campaign reserve of $20 million, Gottheimer has demonstrated significant fundraising prowess, which is crucial in a competitive gubernatorial race.
His ability to raise large sums of money will help down ballot Democrats for the General Assembly in District 36 as well as council candidates John Balwierczak and Cengiz “Jim” Sever in that campaign to unseat GOP incumbent Kirk Del Russo, an ardent supporter of “rolling tax assessments” and the failed housing scheme known as EnCap!
4. Commitment to values that represent North Arlington & New Jersey:
While advocating for fiscal conservatism, Gottheimer remains committed to strong social issues, including support for reproductive rights and climate change initiatives. He has also been a vocal advocate for combating antisemitism.
5. Electability in a “Purple” State:
Having won elections in a Republican-leaning congressional district (5th-CD), Gottheimer has proven his appeal to a broad electorate, making him a strong contender in a state that has seen fluctuating political dynamics in recent years.
With a strong political base here in Bergen County, Gottheimer can carry a must-win county for Republicans and become the first Democrat from Bergen to serve as governor in the modern era.
In summary, US Congressman Josh Gottheimer offers a combination of bipartisan experience, fiscal responsibility, and progressive values, making him a potentially strong nominee for New Jersey Governor in a year where NJ Republicans will nominate a formidable foe that has already run for governor and will have the strong backing of the Trump White House.
We urge all registered voters to participate in Tuesday’s Primary and consider Rep. Josh Gottheimer as New Jersey’s next governor.
Vote the entire Democratic ticket including Balwierczak & Sever for North Arlington Borough Council.
