NORTH ARLINGTON – Councilman Mark Yampaglia (D-NA), the Democratic nominee for Mayor of North Arlington believes a “kid’s first” agenda will play a critical role in his campaign to unseat first-term Republican Joseph Bianchi(R).
“North Arlington is a changing community. There are more young families investing in residing in the community and they expect clean streets, good schools and a quality of life that is small, safe and suburban,” noted Yampaglia, a life-long resident.
“As Mayor I want to work in a collective, bipartisan basis with Democrats and Republicans. As a graduate of North Arlington HS, I have fond memories of my time in class as well as playing baseball and making life-long friendships. I was prepared for the real world and because of educational foundation that NA gave me; I had a good degree of higher educational success. I would not be an attorney today if not for my schooling provided to me in the North Arlington public schools system,” said the candidate.
While running for mayor is not like running for the Board of Education, Yampaglia wants to promote unity between the two elected bodies.
“There are twelve elected leaders here in North Arlington. We have a directly elected mayor, six council members and five members of the board of education. This is a small town and we need to work for governmental and educational consensus. I believe our goals should be reasonable, flexible and cooperative. This is an important time in our community’s history and it will never be said in a Yampaglia Administration that we didn’t strive for great schools and reliable local government. Both can be achieved with the right kind of leadership.”
All three candidates are graduates of local schools. Yampaglia and his running-mate Josie Papile from North Arlington High School while former Mayor and Councilman Peter Massa is a graduate of Queen of Peace which closed last year.
Yampaglia stressed a “Kid’s First” agenda.
“Good schools mean high property values. High property values means a thriving, better North Arlington. Like good schools I want to support our Public Library while investing in the renovation of our Senior Center. Unity and cooperation creates the political will to do what is right and what residents expect,” noted Yampaglia.
Yampaglia believes a well-run community is also fiscally responsible.
“I’m delighted an individual like Josie Papile decided to join our Democratic team. She has the perfect resume and financial background to move North Arlington forward.”
Josie Papile has held numerous financial posts for various companies including Aerosoles, BabyGear.com and Urban Brands before becoming the CFO of Paragon Sports located in Manhattan.
“I have served as a councilman for over a decade and we never had the benefit of a true fiscal and financial expert like Josie as a council member. Her experience will be invaluable should we be successful in making sure North Arlington is a fiscally responsible, taxpayer conscious local unit of government,” said Yampaglia.
Good schools and good government are the dual goals of a Yampaglia Administration.
“We can do both. We need to work as a team. We need intergovernmental cooperation, unity and community pride. Giving our children every opportunity to succeed and become productive members of society is a necessary and admirable goal,” offered the Democratic nominee for Mayor.
