WITH NO CHANCE OF WINNING, SANDERS NOW IS RUNNING CANDIDATES FOR FREEHOLDER IN BERGEN COUNTY AND TRYING TO DIVIDE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY!
There is a time to fight and a time to surrender.
The time for Bernie Sanders to drop out has long past, as he now is instigating an unnecessary primary challenge to Bergen County’s Democratic freeholder team without explanation or rationale!
But Bernie Sanders does not seem to care because Mr. Sanders is not a real Democrat.
For whatever reason, he continues this myopic and losing proposition during a worldwide pandemic.
While Americans are concerned about their lives, Bernie is looking for votes!
It is without question the most selfish of intentions that helps no one, not even himself!
The Democratic Party weeks ago decided former Delaware US Senator and Vice-President Joe Biden is best qualified to serve as the standard bearer come the fall campaign.
Experienced, battle-tested and ready, Biden’s long service in the US Senate and as Barack Obama’s vice-president is more than enough in resume and record to properly represent the Democrats come the fall issue.
So why is he (Sanders) still running, and why would any responsible Democrat support his attack upon the Bergen County Democratic Committee as well as the local North Arlington Democratic Party?
Local Democrats are dismissing the Sanders distraction as just the actions of a sore loser not really interested in defeating Donald Trump come the fall campaign.
“The fact Joe Biden is the overwhelming choice of true Democrats saves the party a divisive and senseless nomination battle. We don’t know what kind of campaign will take place in light of this new normal and if even if a June Primary will be held given the current circumstances. We don’t even know if the Democratic National Convention will go on as scheduled. Why anyone would put place a petty, personal agenda ahead of the country’s health and the Democratic Party’s decision to rally behind the Vice-President is inexplicable,” offered one local NA Democrat when asked to comment.
“At the end of the day, the Sanders campaign is being reduced to fringe supporters and third-party types that lack any serious support from anyone inside or outside the Democratic Party. If it wasn’t so ridiculous it would be comical.”
In a letter to the North Arlington Democratic Municipal Committee, Municipal Chairman Nick Antonicello announced that the local party has endorsed Thomas Bradley and John Yampaglia, a planning board member and brother of former councilman Mark Yampaglia as the endorsed ticket to challenge GOP incumbents Mario Karcic and Donna Bocchino.
“We’re moving forward in unchartered waters. The health of our residents come first in this unprecedented environment so we’re behind Vice-President Biden who received over 80% of the vote of the entire county committee in an online election. Those who continue refuse to accept the hard reality that Joe Biden will be our nominee is disturbing, strange and selfish,” offered Antonicello, entering his 21st year as the local party leader.
“You now have Sanders attacking and challenging our county freeholder ticket in a race in which he won’t even receive the required 15% to qualify to have delegates. His delegate total this time will be half of what he accumulated four years ago. His 2016 presence at the convention had no impact on the party platform and in the end did nothing to help Democrats win. Steve Tanelli is on that freeholder board and an attack on the party’s endorsed candidates is an attack on the entire freeholder board,” noted Antonicello.
“How any individual who claims to be a Democrat would attack Freeholder Tanelli needs to change their party registration,” charged Antonicello.
Antonicello stated there is no place for this kind of disruption in the face of the current health crisis.
“The safety and protection of our residents as well as our first responders is what currently matters. Politics is the last thing anyone is concerned about. This primary challenge will result in being crushed at the polls and those part of this ridiculous effort can no longer be regarded as Democrats in good standing, but rock throwers who are only concerned about their own ego and agenda which is counterproductive to our goals as a local party organization,” noted Antonicello.
“Quite frankly, they are no longer wanted or welcome.”
Antonicello said he keeps in close contact with Freeholder Steve Tanelli over the phone as well as the 2020 candidates and former mayors Russ Pitman and Pete Massa.
“We speak and stay in contact given the circumstances. These are long-time, reliable and loyal Democrats. They and the committee members are the heart and soul of our local organization. I will not bargain with those who constantly have unreasonable demands for their support which is minimal to nonexistent,”
“Given the circumstances, politics is on the back burner for now and when things get back to normal, we will assess what is proper, appropriate and acceptable in terms of engaging the electorate. For now, I pray for our community and country. We’re all North Arlington residents and Americans first, and the first and only priority is to ensure we stay safe and protected,” said the retired labor leader and veteran of the US Army.
