GOP Committee expected to recommend Amanda DeCicco as her replacement for this pending, unexpired term.
$1 Million Dollar Spending Gap in 2025-26 Budget According to Karcic!
Borough Bonds $1.5M for 165-171 River Road, $238,000 for a Water Feature at Danny Morris Park, $608,000 for a DPW vehicle, $100,000 for security cameras!
GOP supporters Teixeira & Kyratzis appointed to vacancies on Planning Board
Total Appropriated Spending: $4,050,709.99 in a Single Council Meeting!
NORTH ARLINGTON – Lynette Cavadas, who abruptly announced she was not seeking reelection, has apparently moved out of North Arlington and now resides in Lyndhurst.
Her resignation is pending.
Sources within the Republican Party indicate that Amanda DeCicco will be nominated by the GOP municipal committee and that is expected to occur once the local party unit meets. While Cavadas has announced her resignation, she did not indicate when she will be leaving the council.
There is no indication a letter of resignation has been formally submitted at this time.
Under public comment an individual seeking support for a marijuana dispensary sought council consensus for such a business.
The all-Republican council was non-committal.
There seems to be zero support for a such a business in North Arlington along River Road.
Council candidate Cengiz “Jim” Sever sought clarification on the apparent senior/veterans housing proposal that is expected to break ground this summer according to Mayor Dan Pronti. Sever asked about the timeline of the project as well as overall cost, which was vague to say the least.
In addition, Sever asked about the application process for these 45 units and if residents would be given a preference.
Again, that was not addressed.
For a project that apparently is breaking ground according to Pronti, the cost and details continue to remain at best a mystery, and non-existent to taxpayers.
Another issue was the site of the project itself, which historically has had flooding issues for decades.
The Borough Council hired Joseph Miller as an EMS Supervisor at an annual salary of $80,625. Police officer Anthony Scala was also promoted to the rank of lieutenant at a salary of $166,311.50.
Miller is apparently replacing a vacancy created within the ranks.
Councilman Mario Karcic (R) spoke in-depth about a potential $1M increase in spending regarding the borough’s healthcare expenditures for 2025-26. How this will affect the 2025-26 budget remains a mystery , as property taxes are expected to increase again for a second consecutive year under this all-Republican Mayor & Council.
No Democrat has served since 2019, and no Democrat has been elected in nine years.
Democrats John Balwierczak and Cengiz “Jim” Sever, both in attendance fully expect another property tax hike in the 2025-26 budget.
DeCicco, the GOP candidate was absent and not in attendance.
“The notion that municipal taxes in North Arlington are not increasing at a rapid pace is laughable. They increased last year, and they will increase this year. The secretive nature in which these seven Republicans operate is disturbing. Transparency and accountability will only occur when we have responsible two-party government and end this miserable gridlock of all Republicans, all of the time,” offered both candidates.
“We just spent $1.5 million on a piece of property on River Road that has been dormant for years. But now we’re hearing threats of higher property taxes. This Mayor & Council is in a spending frenzy, and they get away with it because no one is watching the store. Maybe this year Del Russo and DeCicco will speak for themselves and not be puppets for Pronti,” offered Balwierczak.
Democrats were asked if they would participate in a debate with the Republicans.
“Why not? As long as the process is fair and objective. People tell us we know so little as to what is occurring, they would probably like that opportunity to see the candidate’s side-by-side without any outside interferences,” offered the Democrats.
“I’m sure Dan will be lobbying for a stacked deck to protect his candidates,” offered Balwierczak.
