Former North Arlington Councilman Robert Myers passes at 82.

NORTH ARLINGTON – Former North Arlington council member Robert “Bob” Myers passed on June 19th.

He was 82.

A veteran educator and instructor, Myers was an English teacher at Becton Regional High School at the time of his retirement and long involved as a representative with the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) in his retirement.

Myers was part of a Democratic landslide in 1978 when then Councilman Edward Martone (D) defeated Republican Mayor Ernest T. Cerone by a wide margin. Defeated for reelection in 1981, Myers unsuccessfully ran for mayor in 1986.

Myers continued to support local Democrats for decades.

He is predeceased by his wife Maria who he met in Korea during his military service with the US Army where he served overseas with the rank of Second Lieutenant.
