VFW POST COMMANDER DISCOVERS $250 CAMPAIGN DONATION TO NORTH ARLINGTON REPUBLICAN CLUB!

New Commander discovers a political contribution made to the North Arlington Republican Club in the amount of $250!

NORTH ARLINGTON, NJ – VFW Commander Eugene Szura, an N.A. resident and longstanding member of the CALO-SASS post located on River Road has discovered a campaign contribution the North Arlington Republican Club in the amount of $250 dated May 6, 2026.

The check was for a “campaign dinner” according to VFW’s records.

Szura, who has been outspoken on the impending demolition of the current post facility that was constructed by veterans in 1945, does not support the proposal to build forty units of housing at the River Road location that sits in a flood zone.

Republicans, and particularly MAGA Mayor Dan Pronti have pushed for this proposal for years but have failed to answer key questions like the cost to taxpayers, parking considerations and the lack of transparency as most residents no little or nothing about the details of this controversial project.

It is certainly unusual that a veteran organization would make partisan, political donations, and the timing of the contribution comes into question with this proposal of housing on the table.

This donation by the Calo-Sass VFW Post 4697 creates many questions:

Was the $250 taken from the Post’s general treasury? Was the expenditure approved by the Post’s membership or authorized officers? Was the expenditure consistent with VFW governing rules and the Post’s tax-exempt purposes? Are there recorded minutes authorizing the $250 expenditure?
