HURLEY, MARFINO & YAMAPGLIA SURGING IN RACE FOR THREE COUNCIL SEATS IN NORTH ARLINGTON!

GOP SUCCUMBS TO DEMOCRATIC DEBATE CHALLENGE, NORTH ARLINGTON’S TEAM COMMITTED TO KEEPING NA SMALL, SAFE AND SUBURBAN!

NORTH ARLINGTON – In one of New Jersey’s most purple of “swing” municipalities nestled where Bergen, Hudson and Essex Counties meet, Democratic hopefuls Thomas Hurley, Frank Marfino and Councilman Mark Yampaglia will debate their opponents on Tuesday, October 29th at the VFW Hall located at 222 River Road beginning at 6:30 PM.

After weeks of debating about debates, the GOP ticket of Kirk Del Russo, Lynette Cavadas and Donna Bocchino finally caved to public pressure and agreed to meet the Democrats in a face to face, side by side discussion of the issues.

The Republicans currently enjoy a 4-2 majority on the Borough Council and 3 seats are up for grabs come November 5th as the unexpired term of Mayor Dan Pronti will be filled. Should Democrats sweep all three seats; the council will be evenly divided 3-3 with Pronti the Republican casting a tie-breaking vote. If Republicans win, they would enjoy a 7-0 majority and two-party government in the community would cease to exist.

“The Republicans want a monopoly, a monologue and not a dialogue,” offered Democratic Municipal Chairman Nicholas Antonicello, a 43-year homeowner and retired labor leader.

“The optics are very favorable. We have a strong lead-in at the top of the ticket with Assembly members Gary Schaer and Clinton Calabrese along with three standout Democratic incumbents for Bergen County Freeholder. Councilman Yampaglia has been elected four times and we have two excellent candidates in Hurley and Marfino, both endorsed by the New Jersey AFL-CIO. This is a team that will protect taxpayers and put North Arlington first,” noted Antonicello.

“Getting things done for the community matters. Tom, Frank and Mark bring fresh ideas and common sense to local government. They are capable, qualified and ready-to-serve on day one.”

Endorsed by Bergen County Freeholder Steve Tanelli, himself a former North Arlington councilman, council president and acting mayor; the three-term Democrat called the ticket “the articulate voices in this campaign to protect homeowners from over development, excessive municipal spending and politics as usual.”

“As a homeowner and resident I want people on the council who are advocates for homeowners and tenants alike. That they believe keeping North Arlington small, safe and suburban is at the heart of what makes this community so special,” said the Third Street resident.

Hurley, originally from Jersey City is a homeowner, husband and father of three children with his wife Rachele. A 13-year resident, Hurley is a union carpenter by trade and elected delegate to his regional council. A volunteer and coach for the Junior Vikings, Hurley serves as Vice-Chair of the Borough’s Zoning Board of Adjustment.

Frank Marfino is a popular life-long resident and former captain of the Varsity Soccer team at NAHS. He and his wife Stacie are homeowners and parents to a baby girl. Employed by PSE&G, Marfino is a volunteer to numerous charitable causes.

Also a life-long resident and graduate of NAHS, Councilman Mark Yampaglia has been appointed twice and elected four times to the North Arlington Borough Council. Yampaglia earned a BA & MA from FDU and his JD from The Touro School of Law. A Parishioner of Queen of Peace with his wife Shirley, Yampaglia is a former public defender and member of the Varsity Viking Baseball team.

“We believe we have the right priorities to lead North Arlington forward. We’re bipartisan problem solvers who will serve as fiscal watchdogs so that homeowners are protected. Our ticket offers a different viewpoint to meet the challenges facing North Arlington and we look forward to a spirited and healthy discussion of the issues with our opponents come October 29th,” offered Hurley, Marfino and Yampaglia in a prepared statement.
