NORTH ARLINGTON – New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy, the Democratic frontrunner for the US Senate posted her attendance to a well-attended meet and greet Sunday in Rutherford that included insurgent candidate John Balwierczak who is seeking to break a local losing streak and get Democrats back on the North Arlington Mayor & Council. The first-time candidate and graduate of North Arlington HS is a longtime resident who is running with John Yampaglia to unseat embedded GOP incumbents Brian Fitzhenry and Allison Sheedy.  Republicans have won seven straight municipal elections and the last time Democrats won was in 2016 when former councilman Mark Yampaglia and Jean Williams ousted Mario Karcic and Richard Hughes. With 2024 being a presidential cycle, a huge turnout is anticipated as many believe Fitzhenry and Sheedy to be vulnerable come the fall. The candidate is seen here in a collage of photos with Murphy, who is seeking to replace outgoing incumbent Robert Menendez.

Balwierczak and Yampaglia have been working hard as they picked up the endorsements of Murphy, as well as NJ Senator Paul Sarlo (D-36), Bergen County Democratic Committee Chair Paul Juliano and former North Arlington councilman Thomas Zammatore. Murphy has nearly 7,000 “X” followers since announcing her campaign while Balwierczak has a Facebook group of some 300 members and expects to launch a candidate site shortly on “X” as well.“It was an honor to meet the First Lady and I am proud to run on the Bergen County organizational column with Tammy and the rest of the Democratic ticket, which includes our own favorite son, Commissioner Steve Tanelli. It was great to meet other Democrats from across South Bergen and I believe our presence will have a positive effect on the local turnout as well as a thoughtful discussion on the issues North Arlington taxpayers really want to discuss,” offered the Democratic hopeful. Balwierczak & Yampaglia have been walking door to door for months and expect to get back in the streets once the weather breaks. The local Democrats will be holding an organizational meeting in February at a time and date to be announced. All supportive residents are urged to attend.“Changing the culture of local campaigns and elections are critical for victory. The GOP incumbents have gone unchallenged and unquestioned for a long time, so this will be the first time they will be confronted by their record and actions. We will engage in a firm, but fair discussion of their record as public officials. Residents have been shutout politically speaking for too long, but that will not be the case in 2024. We aim to take this campaign to the streets with a listening tour not seen in over a decade. We believe once we make our case, a proper discussion and dialogue will replace the repetitive monologue that doesn’t address the issues NA residents really want to talk about,” offered the candidates. “We will make every effort to offer a policy-driven alternative they can be proud of.”
