A new and emerging community here in North Arlington is that of Peruvians, who have endorsed the local Democratic ticket of John Balwierczak for mayor, and Dennis Papile & Cengiz “Jim” Sever for borough council.

Puerto Ricans make-up 23.56% of North Arlington’s Hispanic population, Cubans are 5.82%, and Mexicans 1.33% of the overall Hispanic populace.

New Jersey has a thriving Peruvian community and culinary scene, with major cultural hubs and first-generation enclaves located largely in northern and central counties like Passaic, Hudson, Bergen, Union, and Essex Counties.

North Arlington’s 30.3% Hispanic population is higher than the New Jersey state average of 22.5%. According to NeighborhoodScout, approximately 25.5% of North Arlington residents speak Spanish at home.

4,993 residents of North Arlington, or 30.3% of the population, identify as Hispanic.
