NJ AFL-CIO ENDORSES JIM SEVER FOR NO. ARLINGTON BOROUGH COUNCIL!
Union-backed candidate joins labor volunteers for Saturday afternoon Labor Walk
NORTH ARLINGTON, N.J. — October 24, 2026 — Cengiz “Jim” Sever, Democratic candidate for North Arlington Borough Council, is highlighting the official endorsement of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO as he campaigns ahead of the November 3 general election.
Here is the letter that was sent today to every union household below:
Sever participated in a Labor Walk Saturday afternoon, joining fellow supporters in connecting with voters and discussing issues affecting working families, homeowners, seniors and taxpayers.
The New Jersey State AFL-CIO announced its 2026 endorsements in June, including Sever, a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) Local 7. The statewide labor federation represents workers across numerous industries and supports candidates with a record or commitment to advancing the interests of working people.
“I’m proud and humbled to have the endorsement of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO and to stand alongside the men and women who keep our communities and our economy moving,” Sever said. “As a working tradesman, I understand the importance of a fair day’s pay, affordable housing, responsible government and protecting the financial security of working families and seniors. Saturday’s Labor Walk was an opportunity to discuss how we can build a stronger future for North Arlington.”
A WORKING TRADESMAN RUNNING FOR COUNCIL
Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Sever attended Lafayette High School and works as a journeyman tile and marble installer with BAC Local 7. He is a longtime North Arlington resident, homeowner, husband and father of three.
Sever has made property-tax affordability, responsible development and preserving North Arlington’s suburban character central themes of his campaign. He has also called for greater accountability in municipal government and a more balanced exchange of ideas on the Borough Council.
His campaign is running alongside Democratic mayoral candidate John Balwierczak and Borough Council candidate Dennis Papile. Sever has also received the endorsement of the Bergen County Central Trades Council, AFL-CIO.
“Working people deserve a voice in our local government,” Sever added. “I want residents to know that I will bring the perspective of a working homeowner to the council table and keep the focus on the issues that affect our families every day such as massive overdevelopment, high property taxes and most of all, keeping our residents safe in wake of the Ridge Road double homicide and federal raid of a Belleville Pike business mixed up in narcotics. We can do better.”
